The New Movie Trend: Slithery and Scaly!

Whether it is because of fear or fascination, Hollywood has added the presence of snakes into many action films. But famous actors, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Samuel L. Jackson, don’t rely on snake repellent or snake deterrent.  These productions are filled with adventure, thrill and horror. The image of these scary reptiles in action makes a huge impact on the audience.

In honor of another evil snake appearance in motion picture lore, let’s take a look back at the top eight snake movies.

8. Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid – This production follows a group of New York City scientists who find ‘The Blood Orchid,’ commonly known as the fountain of youth, on a deserted island. Unfortunately for our adventurers, this rare flower has the ability to make anacondas longer, stronger, faster and smarter.

7. Conan the Barbarian – Although this flick isn’t completely about snakes, one of the scariest scenes in this movie involves Arnold Schwarzenegger trying to wrestle a giant snake.

6. Boa vs. Python – In this film, an proactive businessman makes passage for an 80-foot-python to travel to the United States.  Shortly after reaching American soil, the intimidatingly large snake manages to escape and leave behind a trail of human victims. The plot worsens when not one, but two enormous snakes break free in this movie with a 70-foot boa constrictor pitted against the first snake.

5. Python – An enormous man-eating snake sets off on a rampage to spill human blood after a plane crash, forcing the locals to find a way to eliminate the snake with the help of a scientist.

4. King Kong – This film can be summed up in one short sentence: does anything beat King Kong duking it out with a snake of equal size!?

3. Snakes on a Plane This action movie features Samuel L. Jackson, a character in place as part of FBI protection, who is boarding a plane to accompany a witness that is being flown into Los Angeles in order to testify against an mob boss.  Meanwhile, Jackson and the witness are unaware that the plane is full of dangerously poisonous and aggressive snakes, which are set to be deliberately released when the plane reaches 30,000 feet.  Overall, this production required the use of 450 snakes, not excluding a 22-foot-long-Burmese python nicknamed “Kitty.” Unfortunately, the filmmakers were not satisfied with the natural movement of the real snakes, and resorted to digital creation of the slithery antagonists.

2. Raiders of the Lost Ark – Indiana Jones, an archeology teacher, heads to the jungles of South America to search for a golden statue.  During the journey, the adventurous Jones, jumps snake pits and burns snakes with flaming gasoline.

1. Anaconda -- In this 1997 film, a National Geographic film crew heads to the Amazon jungle to make a documentary on a long-lost tribe of natives.  The crew rescues a man from his sinking boat and is later kidnapped by the man who takes them along on his quest to capture the biggest and noxious snake the world has yet to see. How can you resist this adventure with Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, and Eric Stoltz. Oh, can you can’t forget Ice Cube and Owen Wilson.
Shane Jones is an Internet Marketer for companies dealing with the best snake repellent.  He also enjoys movies, adventures, and anything outdoors.
